Free Museum Days In Chicago And Suburbs

Parents won't need to empty their wallets if they visit Chicago area museums / cultural institutions on one of the many free days offered. Below you'll find an alphabetical list of the programs and Chicago museums' free days for 2018. Note that many of these free admission days are for Illinois residents only. After the Chicago museums, we have listed the suburban museums followed by a few free museum admission programs.


   Free Days For Illinois Residents:

      Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum:

          Every Thursday, Illinois residents enjoy free admission.


     Shedd Aquarium:

          June 4, 5, 11, 12, 18 & 19

     Museum of Science & Industry:

          June 4-17; 11 & 12

     Field Museum:

           June 20 & 22

     Blackberry Farm:

           June 6 & 20

Adler Planetarium

Free Days For Illinois Residents 2018:

 June 21
 August 27-31
 September 9-16
 October 8, 21, 24, 25
 November 11, 12, 14, 15
 December 1, 3-7, 10

Art Institute Of Chicago

Free Days for Illinois Residents 2018:

  Residents receive free admission on weekdays January 8 - February 15

Admission to the Art Insitute of Chicago is FREE to Illinois residents every Thursday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.

Children under 14 are always free, as are teen (14-17) residents of Chicago.

Bridgehouse Chicago River Museum

Free admission every Sunday.  The Museum is open seasonally, May - October.

Chicago Children's Museum

First Sunday of Each Month: Free admission for kids 15 and under.

Free Family Night: Thursdays 5pm – 8pm, free admission for all

Chicago History Museum

2018:  The Museum is FREE to Illinois residents every Tuesday* 12:30-7:30 PM and on these Commemorative Days:  Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidnets' Day, March 4, and July 4.  *Excluding January 9, December 18 & 25.

  Admission For Kids Age 12 And Under Is Always Free.

Clarke House Museum

Tours are FREE on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 1pm and 3pm.

DuSable Museum Of African American History

Free every Tuesday

The museum also offers free admission rates (on school days) to all Chicago Public School students.

Children under 5 are free every day.

Field Museum

2018 Illinois Resident Discount Days:

  June 20-22


Glessner House Museum

Tours are FREE on Wednesdays (not applicable to groups of ten or more).

Shedd Aquarium

FREE general admission for Illinois Residents 2018:

  June 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19
  September 4-30
  October 3, 10

Museum Of Contemporary Art

Admission is FREE for Illinois residents on Tuesdays year round.

Members of the military, Illinois elementary and high scholl teachers, and kids 12 & under are free every day.

Family Days: The Museum will continue to be FREE to families on the second Saturday of the month, 11am - 3pm.  

Museum Of Science And Industry

Illinois Residents Free Admission Days in 2018:

    June 4–7, 11–12

    September 4–6, 10–13, 17–20, 24–27 

    November 12


National Museum Of Mexican Art

Free admission every day.


Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum

Children 3 and under are free every day.


Swedish American Museum / Brunk Children's Museum Of Immigration

Admission to the Brunk Children’s Museum of Immigration is included with Swedish American Museum admission.
Free admission second Tuesday of every month, year round.


Blackberry Farm

Family Fun Days means free admission for Illinois families to enjoy all amenities without cost, including all interpretive stations, museums and rides.

2018 Family Fun Days:

     May 9 & 23.

    June 6 & 20.

    July 11.

    August 8.


Brookfield Zoo Free Admission Days

Free Admission for Military Personnel daily.
