The Plush Horse - Ice Cream Parlour
Many parents who grew up in the Chicago area remember visiting The Plush Horse Ice Cream Parlor as a kid, and it is still in business today. The air of nostalgia greets you as you enter the old fashioned storefront with the tin ceiling, antique carousel horse, and a huge standing plush horse. There are many delicious flavors of ice cream to choose from, and the portion sizes are enormous – beware that a single scoop c ...
This past weekend I was trying to come up with something to do with the kids. I wanted to stay in the Chicago area and didn't want to break the bank on my little outing. Also, because of the weather (winter weather but no good snow to play in) where ever we went needed to be indoors. So what came to mind? One of my favorite free places in Chicago to take the kids. The Garfield Park Conservatory.

Last week I decided that the boys and I needed a bit of a change and a little excitement. Their idea? head to the nearest indoor waterpark for an overnight stay. So that is what we did. We made reservations for a 1 night stay at Keylime Cove. We upgraded to the Family Getaway Package which included admission to the waterpark, 100 arcade credits, 1 large pizza, 6 wings, and a 2-liter of pop.
My 12 year old invited 2 friends and we left as soon as they got out of school Friday afternoon. The drive to Gurnee took about 45 minutes from Chicago, not bad.

My family and I recently visited The Chicago Children's Museum at Navy Pier. What a fun day! I have been there many times several years ago with my older kids, but haven't visited lately. There are so many exhibits in the museum that there is something to please everyone. My older boys were a bit concerned that they may be "bored" during our visit ..... and that surely is the first time I've heard that concern from them :) They found many things to occupy themselves throughout the day. We stayed until the museum closed! The new and temporary exhibit is called Circus Zirkus: Where You're the St ...

I'll admit (sheepishly) that at the time I was sort of relieved I couldn't go with them, because science really isn't my thing. And the drive to Aurora from Park Ridge is not a short one, so I was happy to let them have a daddy-daughter day. Well, they all came back raving about it, and my DH was so impressed he wrote a review on it. The first and only review he's ever written on kidwinks. We've been to a lot of places with our kids, and it speaks volumes to me that this is the only place he's ever taken the time ...

The space is very large and clean. There are tons of huge screen tvs ready for play. There is a pc area where visitors can play pc games and if you have an account to an ...
